All IT student workers possess strong customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills, and are both independent workers and collaborative teammates. We provide training for our employees and expect excellence from our workers.

Computer User Services

Techies (computer hardware shop)

  • Haul computers around campus
  • Sort, test, and clean cables, keyboards, etc.
  • Learn to diagnose computer hardware and software issues
  • Take apart and repair all manner of Mac computers
  • Clean various fluids from circuit boards
  • Work towards becoming Apple Certified for Mac products
  • Process an endless variety of electronics recycling

Requirements

  • Interest in technology and helping others
  • Able to work 5+ hours a week in 2-3+ hour shifts, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm (for the first year)
  • Seeking first-years/sophomores looking for a multi-year position

T-watchers (help desk)

  • Provide front-line desktop/software support for students, faculty, and staff
  • Help the community make productive use of computers and technology in computer labs, classrooms, offices, and elsewhere across campus
  • Provide support in person, over email, phone, and chat
  • Located at the Help Desk on the ETC first floor
  • Position with long-term employment opportunity and possibility of advancement

Requirements

  • Interest in technology and helping others
  • Able to work 5+ hours a week in 2-3+ hour shifts, Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm (for the first year). Possibility of evening hours after successful completion of training.
  • Seeking first-years/sophomores looking for a multi-year position

A/V student assistant

  • Support the deployment and operation of audio visual technology in classrooms, auditoriums and events spaces across campus.
  • Deliver and operate various pieces of audiovisual equipment including computers, projectors, video and audio recording devices, sound systems of all sizes and audio visual switching systems
  • Interact face to face with faculty, staff and students in assisting them in the setup and operation of requested AV equipment, mostly for classes and other presentations but some larger events as well

Requirements

  • Interest in audio visual technology 
  • Willing to work late or early shift as needed events can start as early as 7am and go as late as 11pm
  • Preferred first-years/sophomores

Sales Assistant/Receptionist

  • Answer questions about computer products
  • Process incoming computer equipment
  • Create and update sales records
  • Assist Reed staff with printer toner needs
  • Maintain inventory of items in stock

Instructional Technology

Langlabbies

  • Language Resource Assistants (LangLabbies) staff the Language Lab, located in the IMC in the Hauser Library.
  • Support technology for teaching, learning and research in languages and literature.
  • Provide recommendations for language learning resources and media for language courses.
  • Research, assess, and support resources for digital humanities at Reed.

mLabbies (data)

  • Support the effective use of technology in teaching and learning, providing direct support to students (thesis work, class projects) and faculty (research, teaching)
  • Work is focused on data analysis, visualization, and presentation, primarily using R (and Stata), as well as GIS/spatial work using QGIS (and ArcGIS/esri tools)
  • Emphasis on communication -- written as well as in-person communication with users.
  • Work closely with professional staff in ITS to coordinate and manage projects
  • Must have excellent communication skills, be a self-motivated worker, and be excited about technology, innovation, and problem solving. 

mLabbies (digital media)

  • Support the use of technology in teaching and learning with faculty, staff, and students
  • Focused on using multimedia and emerging technologies, such as video creation and editing, 3d printing, and XR (encompassing VR and AR)
  • Software commonly used: Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Garageband, iMovie, Illustrator, and Unity. 
  • Work with ITS staff to coordinate and manage projects.
